Registration Resources

The LMU Schedule of Classes is available via PROWL and in PDF format.

The University Bulletin is available online to review Academic Policies and Procedures.

The University is using DegreeWorks as the degree audit program, and phasing out the old degree audit (CAPP). How do I know which degree audit I should use? You need to know your catalog term: PROWL > Student Services > Registration > Check Your Registration Status. You will find your Catalog Term under the Curriculum Information/Current Program header.

If your Catalog Term is:

  • Fall 2014 or later, you use DegreeWorks.

  • Fall 2013 or earlier, you use CAPP.
  • First Week of the Term (Drop/Add Period)

    • A student may register, drop or add courses, take a leave of absence or withdraw from LMU on PROWL in the first week of the semester without academic or financial consequences.
    • In that week, a student has until the fifth day of the term at midnight to register or make changes to a registration schedule.
    • It is the student’s responsibility to confirm that the schedule on PROWL is correct by midnight on the fifth day of the term.
    • Courses dropped by the deadline will receive 100% tuition refund and the transcript will not show a grade of W.

    Please note:

    • The University does not drop courses from a student's schedule for non-attendance at any time during the semester; it is the sole responsibility of the student to ensure that the schedule is correct by the end of the first week of the term. Non-attendance in a course will not grant a retroactive withdrawal.

    Second Week of the Term through Last Day to Withdraw (Withdrawal Period)

    • A student may withdraw from a course(s)/all courses from his/her schedule with a resulting grade of W in each course through the deadline to withdraw as printed in the calendar. A student may not withdraw from a course(s) after the deadline.
    • Full-time undergraduate students pay flat-rate tuition which does not enable a refund by course.
    • Please note that for part-time undergraduate and graduate students, LMU offers a sliding tuition refund schedule through the last day to withdraw.
    • If a student stops attending a course after the last day to withdraw in the semester, the student will receive a grade of F or the assigned grade from the instructor.

    General questions concerning registration procedures should be addressed to the Office of the Registrar.

  • LMU instructors serve as academic advisors to assist students in planning programs of study while at LMU. Seeking the guidance of an advisor is not always required, but is helpful to the student when making important academic and career decisions.

    The advisor‘s name can be found on the Degree Works audit.

    Advisors hold office hours during the school year or can be contacted through email. See Academic Advising in the Bulletin.

  • This page contains information that can help students navigate the registration process and online systems used to register. There are also suggestions of "how to" build a course schedule and other in-person resources to help you. It is always advisable that students contact their Dean's Office if they are having difficulty getting the classes they need to meet degree requirements.

    How to Build a Course Schedule and Choose Alternate Sections or Courses

    Please note: It is to your advantage to complete a full registration for the coming semester at the time of your appointment. It is better to be registered in a course than to not be registered.
    Make a note of the available courses and sections (the Schedule of Classes in PROWL will show you available classes only) and use these courses to begin building your schedule. 
    Please remember that when choosing courses, you should review all course sections. For a closed section or course, there are two options:

    Option 1: Select alternate sections or alternate course

    • If there are multiple sections of a course, remember to choose those sections as well. Select several alternate courses sections that will fit around your "must have" classes to use in the event that your chosen course section closes before you register.
    • If a "must have" course is not offered in the term, contact the Dean's Office that offers the course to see when it will be offered in the future.

     Option 2: Waitlist (see Waitlist a Course)

  • PROWL will prevent registration for more than the Colleges' semester hour limits until the date specified in the Academic Calendar.

    Students with financial aid or other financial awards should consult the full-time financial aid policy.

    PROWL will display a message when a course has restrictions. You may need to seek a restriction override.

    Students may repeat courses previously taken at LMU but should be aware of academic policy and financial aid policies.

  • Steps for the first-time use:

    1. Sign in using your LMU email address and password.
    2. Configure additional authentication information (additional email address, phone number, and security questions).
    3. Configure Duo Authentication.

    Once you have logged in, three screens are presented to you, all of which have mandatory responses.

    1. Agree to the Terms of Usage.
    2. Verify or Update Race and Ethnicity information.

    After these steps, your account is active and you may choose from the PROWL offerings or proceed to other University online modules.

  • Continuing Students (including Return from Leave):

    • Registration begins on or after the appointed time found on the Prepare for Registration page in PROWL. Appointments are based on the number of earned hours and exclude those In Progress.

    Entering Students:

    • First-year students register in June during their advising appointment after they have completed the pre-registration tasks in Future Lions.
    • Transfer Students register after being advised by their respective Dean's Office.
    • Graduate Students receive a time assigned by the system.
  • Check for holds in PROWL on the Prepare for Registration page. Resolve any holds that appear prior to your registration time by contacting the department that placed the hold.

    You may find an Academic Advisor hold which will be in effect until you meet with your advisor to review your schedule. A student is assigned an academic advisor for each major and each minor. Advisor names can be found on your Degree Works audit.

  • The student may see a message on PROWL after submitting a CRN during the registration process. Registration in the class will be prevented. The student may be able to gain approval to override these restrictions. These are registration messages with possible solutions for the student.

    If you enter a CRN and the NR (Not available for Registration) message is displayed, ensure that you have chosen the correct term for registration. The message means that you have searched for a course in a term not yet available for registration, i.e., a future term for which there is no advance registration.

    • Class Restriction - The number of semester hours required for the class has not been completed. (PROWL counts in-progress hours as completed for this restriction.)
    • Closed Section - Enrollment for the class has reached a limit determined by the department. The student should choose another section of the course or may contact the course department for an override.
    • College Restriction - The student’s major is not within the college or school required for the class. The student may contact the course department for an override.
    • Major Restriction - The student’s major is not one of those allowed for the class. The student may contact the course department for an override.
    • Maximum Hours Exceeded - Total semester hours exceed the amount allowed for the student. Undergraduates are restricted to 17 hours until shortly before the beginning of the semester when limits are raised to 18 or more hours. Graduate students may take no more than 15 hours per semester. Summer students are restricted to 6 hours per session.
    • Pre-req and Test Score Error - The student has not completed the required prerequisite or received the required score on a Placement Examination. The course must be completed and graded in a previous term for this restriction to be satisfied. The course department may allow an override to this restriction if the prerequisite is in-progress.
    • Time Conflict - The meeting time of the class conflicts with another class, or one class starts exactly at the same time as another ends. (10 minutes is required between classes.) Allowed time conflicts must be approved by the instructors and the deans of both courses. An approved General Petition must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar so that the student can be registered in both courses. The student should register in one of the courses prior to the submission of the form.

    Students are not permitted to register in more than one section of the same course. Multiple listings of courses with the same title are removed from a student’s schedule.

  • Students may repeat a course previously taken at LMU but must be aware of the academic policy as it applies to repeated courses.
    There are two ways in which a course may be repeated at LMU. The first are courses which may be repeated for credit toward the degree and these courses will state this in the University Bulletin. The second type of courses repeated at LMU are those taken to improve the GPA. These courses and their restrictions are detailed below.

    • Students may repeat a course previously taken at LMU in a subsequent term at LMU once, including any withdrawals.
    • The grade of the latest occurrence of the repeated course will be the one calculated into the cumulative average.
    • The prior occurrence is excluded from the cumulative grade point average but remains on the transcript. Please note that although the term GPA will change accordingly, the academic status of the term will not change.
    • All graded semester hours attempted are used to determine the student’s grade point average and graduation eligibility.

    Note the following restrictions:

    • For undergraduate students, the third time a course is taken requires approval from the Dean. Undergraduate students may not register for any course in the College of Business Administration for a third time without the written permission of the Department Chairperson of the course and the Dean.
    • Courses taken on a Credit/No Credit basis may not be repeated for a letter grade.
    • Courses taken on a Credit/No Credit basis may not be used as a repeat course to exclude from the cumulative average a grade of a prior occurrence taken on a letter grade basis.
    • Undergraduate students may not repeat an elementary or intermediate foreign language course after successful completion of a more advanced course in the same language.
    • Courses taken at LMU after a degree has been granted will not change the graduation GPA.

    Questions concerning this policy should be directed to the Office of the Registrar.

    Students receiving Financial Aid should also consult the Financial Aid regulations established by the Department of Education.

    Veteran Students should consult the VA Guidelines.

  • Full-time standing for undergraduates is 12 or more units; for graduate students it is 6 or more.

    Consult the Financial Aid full-time policy.

    Review your degree audit in Degree Works. All the degree work you have completed at LMU thus far (including those in progress) is evaluated into the relevant degree and program categories.

    The degree audit reports your progress within the your chosen academic degree plan. If adjustments need to be made to your degree audit, please consult your Advisor or Dean's Office. An adjustment to your program may be appropriate.

  • Review Your Registration

    After a successful PROWL registration, the student’s schedule may be viewed and printed. Two formats of the student schedule may be selected from PROWL:

    Student schedules are intended for personal use and are not official proof of registration when printed. Official proof of registration may be printed from PROWL (Student Services > Student Records > Enrollment Verification). Students are responsible for checking PROWL for any changes in the student schedule which may occur during the registration time period, e.g., class cancellations, course meeting times, room changes, etc.

  • What is the Waitlist?

    A Waitlist is a record of student registration attempts in a particular course which has already reached its maximum enrollment. The order of attempts determines the priority for enrollment in a closed class if/as seats become available. If a student chooses a course and section for which enrollment has already been reached, there is most likely the Waitlist function available. Most LMU courses will have this capability.

    How to Waitlist a Course

    • During PROWL registration when a student attempts to add a course which is closed, but has Waitlist seats available, the student will see the following message:
    • "This section is closed. The Waitlist is open. There are ## already on the Waitlist."
    • To be added to the Waitlist, the student must select a status of: Wait List > Submit Changes.

    The Waitlist Process

    When a seat becomes available for a Waitlist course, the first student on the Waitlist will receive an email at the Lion email account. It will inform the student of the 24-hour deadline to either add the course or be dropped from the Waitlist.

    • To add the course, the student must select a status of Web Registered > Submit Changes.
    • To not add the course, the student can drop from the Waitlist and the next student on the Waitlist will be notified.
    • If no action is taken, the student will be dropped from the Waitlist after the deadline passes and the next student on the Waitlist will be notified.

    About Waitlist

    • To waitlist is not a guarantee that the student will be registered in a closed course.
    • All course requirements must be fulfilled before being added to a Waitlist, for example, prerequisites must be met, there must be no time conflict, etc.
    • Only Lion email accounts will receive Waitlist notifications.
    • A few courses may not have the Waitlist functionality.
    • The Waitlist function is closed on the last day of registration. The official registration is set as of the last day to register in the semester.
