Rounding Out Policy

What is Rounding Out?

Rounding Out allows students to take elective courses in their final semester in order to receive full-time benefits if the following apply:

  • You are enrolled in all remaining courses required by your degree program to complete your degree requirements (including core, major, and other declared programs such as the Honors Program).
  • you are under full-time status with those remaining required courses
  • you have not Rounded Out at LMU prior
  1. Elective courses approved under Rounding Out must be courses that are identified in your program's curriculum options which could otherwise count to meet degree requirements.
  2. You may not use a course already taken or repeat a course for a better grade.
  3. Rounding out is limited to one term only.
  4. If you are using CH 31 benefits, you must also obtain approval from your VRE case manager, in addition to meeting the above requirements.

For illustrative purposes, consider this example (does not reflect LMU POLS major requirements):

Pat needs to complete 124 credit hours to obtain a B.A. degree in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations. After passing 116 credit hours, only 8 (eight) additional units are needed to graduate. In order to achieve full-time status, Pat also enrolls in in an additional 4-unit POLS optional course not taken previously and is included, by name, in the POLS B.A. Degree program.

Under these conditions, Pat may round out to full-time status using courses meeting the criteria above and therefore be eligible for full-time benefits.
